Networking 101 – The Class You Never Took in College”
Like a lot of things we have learned in life, we’ve learned by experience, by trial and error. Learning that way can be very valuable. But, it’s often the long road to take. In today’s “go go go” world, we can’t afford the time to learn by trial and error. Mistakes teach valuable lessons but can be costly.
Networking no longer means something you do with computers. Networking is how the world gets things done, whether it’s to find a dentist, a new job, someone to paint the house, or to secure new business. To be successful at it, we need to know the basics, learn the rules, and do it right from the beginning.
We need a class and we need a coach! So we’re going to have a crash course in Networking 101. Those who attend will leave with a suggested reading list and some tools to begin the process of becoming a Master of Networking.
Claudia MacDermott is the local expert in business networking, who spends much of her time as Executive Director for Business Networking International (BNI) in northern New Jersey, where she captains a team that supports 24 BNI chapters.
She has taught networking skills to ServPro franchisees, mortgage brokers at Bank of America, Chambers of Commerce, and Bergen County realtors. She has twice been a presenter for the Hope Chest Project teaching college- bound students about networking and mentorship. Claudia has given several workshops at BNI conferences.
She served four years on the Board of the Bergen County chapter of the New Jersey Association of Women Business Owners and six years on the Board of Trustees of The Players Guild of Leonia.
In her spare time, she is active in community theater and has appeared in and directed local productions. She’s the proud mother of two children: her daughter, a psychologist, and her son, a working actor.
Her key to success: living with passion!
