Meet Our Presenter:

Karen Diaz Ensanian has devoted her professional life to the education of people of all ages in dance, creative movement, and the use of drumming in the performing arts. Her extensive experience includes twenty years as an early childhood educator.

Today Karen uses this experience as a foundation for supporting the initiatives of the Dance Education Laboratory program managed by the Department of Education of the City of New York. The program is dedicated to educating educators on early childhood dance and its fulfillment of the Common Core. Karen has also taught multiple college residencies and guest lecturing including a decade long series of guest workshops at Manhattanville College.

Karen’s interest in dance started as a child. In addition to a rigorous course of study in classical ballet, she expanded to modern dance performance and choreography. She has performed with several dance companies. Her interests in incorporating drumming into dance education prompted her to study under the renowned African drummer, Babatunde Olatunji.
